Character Creation Guide
For Vampire: The Masquerade LARP (Laws of the Night)
Welcome to the World of Darkness. You're about to create your vampire character for live-action roleplay (LARP). This is your chance to step into the shadows and explore personal horror, politics, and power. Follow these steps to build your Kindred character.
𦑠Step 1: Concept β Who Were You?
Think about your characterβs background before becoming a vampire.
- What kind of person were they in life?
- Why were they chosen to be Embraced?
- What are they struggling with now?
Examples:
- A punk musician turned Anarch
- A corrupt lawyer turned Ventrue enforcer
- A nurse with a dark past now hiding among the Nosferatu
𧬠Step 2: Choose a Clan
Each clan has its own supernatural powers, weaknesses, and personality.
- Pick a clan that matches your concept (e.g., Brujah for rebels, Toreador for artists, Malkavian for oracles)
- Each clan includes: 3 Disciplines, 1 Bane, and 1 Compulsion
π©Έ Step 3: Generation & Blood Potency
Your Generation determines how close you are to the original vampire, Caine.
Most players start at 12th or 13th Generation.
Blood Potency reflects the strength of your vampire blood.
π Step 4: Assign Attributes
These define what your character is naturally good at. Divide points into Physical, Social, and Mental categories:
- Primary: 4 / 3 / 3
- Secondary: 3 / 2 / 2
- Tertiary: 2 / 1 / 1
Attributes: Strength, Dexterity, Stamina, Charisma, Manipulation, Composure, Intelligence, Wits, Resolve
π©βπΌ Step 5: Assign Skills
Skills reflect training or learned abilities. Distribute: 10 / 7 / 5 across three categories
- No skill can start higher than 3 dots
- Examples: Brawl, Persuasion, Investigation, Technology, Firearms, Subterfuge
π©Έ Step 6: Choose Predator Type
This defines how your character prefers to feed. Predator Type gives bonuses and a feeding-related Flaw
Examples: Siren (seductive), Alleycat (violent), Sandman (feeds from sleepers)
π Step 7: Backgrounds & Loresheets
Backgrounds are your mortal ties and resources (like Allies, Herd, Influence, Fame)
Loresheets are story-based options tied to vampire lore (optional)
β¨ Step 8: Merits & Flaws
Choose Merits and Flaws that define your strengths and weaknesses.
- Merits: Iron Will, Looks, Danger Sense
- Flaws: Prey Exclusion, Phobia, Enemy
π§ Step 9: Assign Disciplines
Your clan determines which three Disciplines you can learn easily.
Spend points based on Blood Potency
Examples: Obfuscate, Potence, Auspex
π Step 10: Spend XP
Typical starting XP is 35. Use it to buy:
- Attributes (4 XP per dot)
- Skills (2 XP per dot)
- Disciplines (5 XP per dot)
- Merits (cost varies)
π Step 11: Final Touches
- Choose your Humanity (usually starts at 7)
- Pick your Touchstones (mortals who ground you)
- Define your Ambition (long-term goal) and Desire (short-term goal)
- Add flavor: appearance, voice, habits, style
β Tips for Success
- Choose flaws that encourage roleplay
- Connect to other players with shared backgrounds
- Focus on what drives your character emotionally
